A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The farm’s commitment to racial justice, complete equality, and shared generosity laid the foundation for Habitat’s model of partnership housing. Habitat has since grown to become a global nonprofit housing leader.
Habitat welcomes people from all walks of life to partner in serving families in need and creating a better community for everyone who lives here.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Jonesboro was founded on June 24, 1992 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity affiliates are local Habitat for Humanity organizations that act in partnership with and on behalf of Habitat for Humanity International. Each Habitat affiliate coordinates all aspects of Habitat home building in its local area.
Our service area is currently only Jonesboro, Arkansas, where we have built 32 new homes and repaired 13 homes. Collectively, Habitat has helped more than 22 million people meet their affordable housing needs around the world.
Diversity and inclusiveness
Habitat for Humanity welcomes people from all walks of life to partner with us as volunteers, donors, employees, and homebuyers. We celebrate and value our diversity, welcome differences and leverage the collective strengths of all people.
A hand up, not a hand out
Habitat for Humanity does not build homes for people, but with them as equal partners. Habitat homeowners build alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
The power of homeownership
We believe in the power of homeownership to build strength, stability, independence, and opportunity for families and communities.
Focus on community
Habitat for Humanity is committed not just to building homes, but to building community. We prioritize our construction efforts within focus neighborhoods to maximize our impact.
Volunteerism as a social change strategy
Habitat for Humanity volunteers don’t just reduce cost – they are our ambassadors and partners in helping to change the world. We are committed to offering opportunities for people in our community to put their values into action.
We strive to create strong, productive and mutually-beneficial partnerships with like-minded organizations in service of our common vision – a community where everyone has a decent place to live.
Transparency and accountability
We are committed to the efficient use of our financial, environmental and human resources and to full and accurate reporting to our donors, volunteers, and partners.
